Antelope Canyon Rising

Deep in the desert of the American west lies the most famous slot canyon in the world, Antelope Canyon. Situated in Navajo Nation near Page, Arizona, this iconic canyon was formed over the years by wind and water erosion. The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means “the place where water runs through the rocks’. As soon as I entered Lower Antelope canyon I was in one of the largest and most well-lit amphitheaters in the whole canyon. The sand beneath my feet released dust that made perfect rays of light with every step. I looked up to see these towering shapes of sandstone dancing with one another and knew I had to photograph it.

Setting up directly beneath the center of the slot canyon I craned my neck skyward camera in hand, trying to find the perfect symmetry while also catching the beam of light descending into the canyon.
