Description
Alone with the Stars
On the west coast of New Zealand lies a small backpackers hut, painted bright orange to stand out against the native grasses hued brown and tan on Mt. Brown. Set upon a high ridge, this small shelter overlooks Lake Kaniere, the town of Hokitika, and eventually the sea. I traveled to this hut while living in Wanaka, New Zealand with my roommate to capture the iconic scenery the west coast has to offer and couldn’t have had better luck with the weather. My alarm woke me early in the morning, nearly 2 AM. I quietly got dressed and shook the sleep from my system and grabbed my camera. The stars were shining bright overhead. I knew at any moment the clouds could come rolling in from the sea as the warm coastal air met the mountains so I did my best to work quickly.
I situated myself along the ridge capturing the center of the Milky Way galaxy as it watched over the hut below. Intently capturing each form of a massive panoramic image that I would stitch together on my computer. I was excited to have this massive panoramic image as a reward for my hard work.
