Goodmorning from Paradise

Few things in life can get me quite as excited as photographing a sunrise on a mountain. Couple that with being in Iceland and a beautiful waterfall in the foreground and you have a recipe for a perfect day!

I woke up two hours before dawn and packed my things in preparation for this photoshoot. I wanted plenty of time to decide on my composition and to be the first one at Kirkjufellfoss so I didn’t have to work around other photographers looking to capture the perfect sunrise. My early arrival paid off and I was the only person there when I pulled into the parking lot. I headed down the short trail to the falls and started playing with my setup, trying to stay out of the mist from the falls while lining up the mountain where the sun would strike it best when it did eventually rise. Once I found the perfect spot, I set up my equipment and waited for the dawn. Slowly but surely the morning light came and greeted me with warm hues of pink and yellow to dance among the clouds above the summit of Kirkjufell. Truly a once in a lifetime sunrise that I will always remember.
